Content This lecture course offers a survey of major US-American playwrights and plays of the long 20th century as it seeks to understand US-American theater history as a significant part of modern American cultural history at the intersection of race, class, and gender. We will explore the ways in which theater and performance have contributed to the construction and deconstruction of the notion of the 'American Dream' in the broad social, political, religious and cultural contexts from modernist to post-postmodernist discourses.
Bibliography A READER will be available at "dings" after the first week of the semester.
