19761-01 - Seminar: Aspects of Environmental Policy in the EU (3 CP)

Semester spring semester 2013
Course frequency Every spring sem.
Lecturers Frank Christian Krysiak (frank.krysiak@unibas.ch)
Markus Maibach
Christa Tobler (christa.tobler@unibas.ch, Assessor)
Content The seminar deals with the environmental policy as a specific EU policy. The (then) European Economic Community did not originally have an explicit competence in this field. At that time, environmental considerations only played a role in the context of the free movement of goods (so called Cassis de Dijon case-law). Today, environmental policy is of highest importance, particularly for enterprises since they are obliged to observe the standards set by the EU. At the same time, there are links with other policy fields such as transport (e.g. Alpine transit), energy and agriculture. Moreover, there is the issue of the relationship between Union law and other international law. Against this background, the seminar enables the students to choose for their written paper from a wide range of topics with high practical relevance.
Bibliography Information will be provided at the first day of studies (27-2-13).
