19761-01 - Seminar: Aspects of Environmental Policy in the EU (3 CP)

Semester spring semester 2014
Course frequency Every spring sem.
Lecturers Frank Christian Krysiak (frank.krysiak@unibas.ch)
Markus Maibach
Christa Tobler (christa.tobler@unibas.ch, Assessor)
Content The seminar deals with the environmental policy as a specific EU policy. At the time of its inception, the (then) European Economic Community did not have an explicit competence in this field. However, certain economic law had environmental aspects. Further, considerations came to play a role in the context of the free movement of goods (Cassis de Dijon case-law). Today, environmental policy is of highest importance, particularly for enterprises since they are obliged to observe the standards set by the EU. At the same time, there are links with other policy fields such as transport (e.g. alpine transit), energy and agriculture. Moreover, there is the issue of the relationship between EU law and other international law. Against this background, the seminar enables the students to choose for their written paper from a wide range of topics with high practical relevance.
Bibliography Information will be provided on the introduction day.
