| Content | Ethical Issues in Pediatrics: This seminar series addresses the specific ethical concerns involved in pediatric medical care. Owing to children and adolescents’ developing capacity and autonomy, their ability to consent to medical interventions greatly varies. Thus, this specific population’s needs and ethical issues are unique and different to those of competent adult patients. Parent/care-giver’s role in surrogate or shared decision making must also be taken into account when treating children and adolescent patients. These concerns will be explored in-depth in relation to the following areas: genetic testing in minors, childhood vaccination, sex reassignment surgery in minors, oncofertility in adolescents, pediatric research, cardiac transplantation for minors, and pediatric end-of-life issues. |
