Semester spring semester 2014
Course frequency Irregular
Lecturers Ina Habermann (ina.habermann@unibas.ch, Assessor)
Content In this course, we will celebrate Shakespeare's 450th birthday by preparing a Shakespeare event at the Literaturhaus Basel which will take place on May 27, 2014. We will look at depictions of Shakespeare as a historical figure and a literary icon as well as at the ways in which Shakespeare and his work have been celebrated. Finally, we will explore instances of celebration in a selection of Shakespeare’s works. All these aspects will be integrated into a performance presented to the public at the Literaturhaus Basel, working title "What is it with Shakespeare? Celebrating the Bard". If you wish to learn more about one of the world’s most important playwrights and also to present this to an audience in an entertaining way, please join us!
Learning objectives Students will extend their knowledge about Shakespeare, his work and his time and learn to put this knowledge to practical use by preparing a cultural event.
