Content | In this course, co-taught by Ladina Bezzola and Ina Habermann, we will discuss selected works of twentieth century Irish literature, situating them in historical and political contexts. The selection covers the major genres of poetry, drama and prose fiction with a focus on two crucial moments in twentieth century Irish history, i.e. the 1920s and 1930s after the creation of the Free State and the time of the 'Troubles' in the early 1970s. |
Learning objectives | Students will develop their skills in close reading and interpretation and extend their knowledge about Irish literature and history. The course should also help students to develop strategies for writing their MA seminar paper. |
