Content | In this course, we will study the poetry of Ireland's Ciaran Carson from his first book, "The New Estate" (1976) to "For All We Know" (2008). |

Bibliography | The following book by Ciaran Carson is required for the course: Ciaran Carson, "Collected Poems", Gallery Press: 2008 Students should purchase a copy of the book before the first session of the course. Copies will be available at the 'Labyrinth' bookstore, Nadelberg 11, Basel. A course pack of secondary literature will be provided. The following books by Ciaran Carson are recommended as background but not required for the course: Poetry: - "On the Night Watch", 2009 - "Until Before After", 2010 - "In the Light of", 2012 Prose: - "The Star Factory", 1997 - "Fishing for Amber", 1999 - "Shamrock Tea", 2001 - "The Pen Friend", 2009 - "Exchange Place", 2012 Translations: - "The Inferno of Dante Alighieri", 2002 - "The Midnight Court", 2005 (translation of Brian Merriman's "Cúirt an Mhéan Oíche") - "The Táin", 2007 |
Admission requirements | For English majors who have successfully completed their second-year courses in Literature and Culture Studies (including the proseminar paper). |
