39975-01 - Research seminar: South African Texts and Contexts since 2000 (4 CP)

Content This seminar aims at analyzing and contextualizing important and diverse texts (novels by, among others, J.M. Coetzee, Zoë Wicomb, Damon Galgut, Zakes Mda, Nadine Gordimer, Kgebetli Moele, Niq Mlongo and Ivan Vladislaviċ) of a post-apartheid multiethnic South Africa.
Reading and understanding these novels within their respective theoretical framework will also prepare students for the International Conference "Cities in Flux" (cf. course no. 40227-01) within the Swiss South African Joint Research Programme.
Bibliography Primary and secondary texts will be made available on ADAM soon.
Comments The international conference "Cities in Flux" will take place on 9-10 June 2015 at the Englisches Seminar. Keynote Speakers: Jean Comaroff, Vivian Bickford-Smith, Sally-Ann Murray, Meg Samuelson, Lindy Stiebel, Itala Vivan.
