Content | Gwendolyn Brooks (1917-2000) was one of the leading American poets from the publication of her debut collection "A Street in Bronzeville" in 1945 until her death in 2000. In 1950, she became the first African American to win a Pulitzer Prize, when she was awarded the Poetry prize for her second book, "Annie Allen". In the course, we will use a selected edition to read and discuss poetry from throughout her career. |

Selected secondary literature on Brooks's poetry will be provided by the instructor. |
