Content | The objective of the course is to familiarize PhD students with all major methods that belong to the toolkit of modern empirical microeconometric research. The focus of the course is on state-of-the-art methods - in particular on semi and non-parametric methods as well as on methods that derive empirical strategies from economic theory. The following topics will be covered: 1. Non-parametric identification 2. Selection on observables and matching 3. Instrumental variables 4. Regression discontinuity design 5. Differences-in-differences 6. Mediation analysis to identify causal channels 7. Using kinked budget sets and policy discontinuities to estimate structural elasticities 8. Structural estimation of dynamic discrete choice models 9. Sufficient statistics |
