Semester | spring semester 2019 |
Course frequency | Every spring sem. |
Lecturers | Jelena Klinovaja (jelena.klinovaja@unibas.ch, Assessor) |
Content | The course is designed to provide a concise introduction to some of the core topics in the emerging field of topological band insulators in one and two dimensions. The aim is to provide a basic understanding of edge states, bulk topological invariants, Majorana fermions, and of the bulk--boundary correspondence with as simple mathematical tools as possible. |

Comments | This is the second part of a two-semester course on quantum condensed matter. The second part (spring semester) focuses on topological effects in condensed matter systems. The two parts are designed such that they can also be taken independently or in reverse order. |
Admission requirements | Basic knowledge of quantum mechanics and condensed matter physics is required. |
