60444-01 - Practical course: Die ersten Etrusker (3 CP)

Semester spring semester 2021
Course frequency Irregular
Lecturers Francesco Quondam (francesco.quondam@unibas.ch, Assessor)
Content The aim of the course is to investigate the formative process of the Etruscan civilization, from the Early Iron Age to the Orientalizing period (late X - VII centuries BC). Particular attention will be paid to the birth process of the great Etruscan cities, to the territorial organization, to the dynamics of Mediterranean exchange and to the emergence of complex forms of social stratification. The course will focus both on Etruria itself, and on the Etruscans of Campania (Pontecagnano) and the Po plain (Bologna).
Learning objectives The aim of the course is to deepen the knowledge of the Italic civilizations of the first millennium both under an historical and specifically archaeological point of view, with a specific focus on material culture, identity, society and exchange networks.
Basic reading skills of Italian for part of the bibliography will be necessary.
