Content | General aspects of carcinogenesis Mechanisms of mutagenesis and carcinogenesis The role of oncogenes in cancer Tumor suppressors Macroscopic genetic alterations and cancer predisposition Toxicogenomics Animal models to detect carcinogens Transgenic animal models used in carcinogenicity Genotoxicity and carcinogenicity Anticarcinogenesis Targeted anticancer drugs Tumor models in cancer therapy Hormone-dependent tumors Treatment of estrogen- and androgen-dependent cancer Discussion on review articles |
Learning objectives | To understand the basics of chemical induction of tumorigenesis. To know cancerogenic chemicals and their mechanisms of action. To understand defense mechanisms and the relevance of transport, phase I and phase II detoxification enzymes. To be able to name three oncogenes and tumor suppressor genes and explain their function in the cell. To know tests used in the detection of cancer cells and genetic predisposition. To know animal models used to detect cancerogenic chemicals and to know defense and repair mechanisms. To know chemotherapeutic drugs as well as the mechanisms involved in resistance to such drugs. |
