| Content | From the Bible to our contemporary moment, collective memory processes have shaped religious identities and practices. In this course, we will examine how religious traditions remember, with a focus on memories of violence in the Abrahamic religions. Through an engagement with both theory and case studies, we will examine the dynamics of collective memory, what role forgetting plays, and how religious traditions translate memory into cultural practice. |
| Learning objectives | Students will be familar with theories from an interdisciplinary field of study that are concerned with understanding practices of remembering and forgetting. |
