68986-01 - Lecture: Sustainable Finance (3 CP)

Semester fall semester 2023
Course frequency Every fall sem.
Lecturers Yuna Heo (yuna.heo@unibas.ch, Assessor)
Content This course provides a conceptual and theoretical framework of how sustainable finance and investment issues affect companies, investors, and other stakeholders. Capital market participants around the world are increasingly focusing on sustainability to manage risks and capitalize on new opportunities. It includes the incorporation of sustainable factors into stock valuation and selection processes, as well as shareholder engagement strategies. It also includes the practices to the management of environmental and climate change-related risks. The goal of this course is to provide students with a firm grounding in the range of issues in sustainability and the application of finance to address it. The course introduces how established practices, procedures, and tools from within the mainstream financial and corporate markets are being adapted to integrate a lens of sustainability in the pursuit of financial performance goals from both an investor and corporate perspective. This course explores the research, projected outcomes, multistakeholder collaborations, and signals of future actions to address them. This course will be useful for a wide range of finance and other professions.
