Course frequency | Once only |
Lecturers | Miriam Locher (miriam.locher@unibas.ch, Assessor) |
Content | This course is for MA English, MSG SuK and PhD candidates in linguistics. Anyone working on a different language (other than English) is also welcome. We will discuss the 'work in progress' (seminar papers, MA theses, PhD theses) of the participants and will work on acquiring research skills in methodology, critical reading and soft skills. The projects discussed can be on English or any other language (for SuK and PhD theses). The oral MA exam will also be discussed. In addition, a special focus will lie on corpus pragmatics. |
Learning objectives | Students learn to present their research topics on a high level. They should be able to outline and defend or constructively criticize different research approaches. |
Bibliography | Pdfs of relevant literature will be made available in ADAM once the program has been fixed after the first meeting. We will also work with the "Cambridge Element: Corpus Pragmatics" written by Daniela Landert, Daria Dayter, Thomas C. Messerli and Miriam A. Locher (https://www.cambridge.org/core/elements/corpus-pragmatics/30FE00EAA8BC1F9C3191B390AB4B0040, open access). |
