| Content | How can we make sense of contemporary forms of imaging that have overturned photography in the past thirty years? The seminar aims at providing an overview of the digital and networked transformations of the photographic medium, with the goal of creating an alternative and experimental glossary. Students will be invited to map the development of the photographic image from the 1990s to the present by organising the most relevant theoretical discourses as well as image phenomena which challenge the traditional understanding of photography. The seminar will cover a wide range of perspectives – from notions of post-photography to networked images, from machine vision to generative A.I. – and will ask participants to create an experimental mapping and a creative glossary from this exploration. The seminar will combine theoretical readings with short practical introductions to creative methods and forms of knowledge alternative to writing: from diagramming and visual essays to interactive timelines and playable glossaries, to online spaces and game worlds. |
