Content Subject in spring semester 2025: Applied Statistics in Finance, Behavioral Sciences and Accounting

The students independently deal with a problem from within the named topics. This entails a written paper as well as its oral presentation and defense. The students will have to work on assignments of a conceptual as well as of an empirical nature.
Learning objectives Completion of this course will enable the students
- to contextualize literature contributions in the fields
- to assess and evaluate diverse research designs
- to identify problems in the Accounting context and to develop adequate solution methods

Comments A short introductory course of 2 to 4 hours each in Python, R and LaTex is offered by Professor Maringer's department at the beginning of the semester. Participation in a programming course and the LaTex course is very recommended.

Admission requirements Prerequisites:
- 32931 Management Accounting 1
- 12036 Econometrics
- Basic programming skills in R or Python (see note at the end of this section)
- recommended 16036 Regression and Statistical Learning (former title was Microeconometrics and Statistical Learning)

The seminar places are allocated on the basis of the availability of seminar places for the various master’s programs. The following criteria then apply:
Criterion 1: Number of credit points already acquired in the Master in Business and Technology (MBT), Master in Finance and Money (MFM) or in the major Finance, Controlling and Banking of the Master in Business and Economics (MBE),
Criterion 2: Average grade of the courses in the Master MBT, MFM or in the major Finance, Controlling and Banking of the MBE

The registration is binding. In case of non-participation after registration it will be noted as "nicht erschienen" in the transcript.
