Lecturers | Robert Stelter (robert.stelter@unibas.ch, Assessor) |
Content | Western economies have experienced sustained economic growth over the course of the twentieth century. These economies are characterised by a number of stylised empirical facts on economic indicators such as growth rates, saving rates or income shares. This lecture series introduces economic models that aim to explain these empirical facts. The lecture starts with a simple model with exogenous saving rates. We then gradually introduce endogenous savings and discuss the role of different production technologies. By discussing the assumptions and mechanisms needed to fit the empirical facts, we will quantify the theoretical framework. The lecture takes up and consolidates some of the content of 65943 "Advanced Macroeconomics" from a long-run perspective. |
Learning objectives | 1. Introduction to (neoclassical) growth theories, 2. Basics skills in continuous time dynamical general equilibrium models, 3. Numerical applications. |
