Content | During the excursion sites of key palaeocological studies will be visited and the study results presented and discussed. Major topics may include (1) Lateglacial lowland sites in Switzerland; (2) Holocene lowland records from Switzerland that provide evidence for landscape and vegetation change as well as information on early human activities and impacts; (3) the history of Swiss mountain lakes; (4) reconstruction of past treeline fluctuations in the Alps; (5) climate reconstruction based on palaeoecological data as well as glacial history of the region; (6) distributions of aquatic invertebrate groups in relation to climate conditions and their use as palaeotemperature indicators; and (7) carbon isotopes of aquatic invertebrate remains in lake sediments and their use for reconstructing past carbon cycling in lakes. |
