Content Description: This course is a primer for MSc and PhD students with an interest in vector-borne infections that affect human health. It provides the basic background on the identification, biology and medical importance of the major groups of arthropods that affect human health, and introduces the concepts of vector control and surveillance. The course is a mix of lectures and hands-on practical, including field work.

Content:
Introduction to mosquitoes
Introduction to arthropods other than mosquitoes
Vector control methods and strategies
Insecticide resistance
Surveillance of invasive mosquitoes
Field sampling techniques, lab work and exercises in arthropod identification
Learning objectives To understand the role of arthropod vectors in disease transmission, and to discuss current vector control and surveillance strategies.
