Content | Description: Enhance your scientific writing proficiency. This course supports students to improve their scientific writing skills and communicate their research effectively. Through a combination of lectures, hands-on manuscript clinics, readings, practical writing exercises as well as peer review, the course guides you in crafting clear, concise and impactful scientific manuscripts such as research articles, theses and proposals. Participants Designed primarily for students at the Swiss TPH, this hands-on course is most suitable if you already have your study topic and are ready to start writing up your research. Priority is given to Master students in the Swiss TPH programme; the course scheduling, level, content and text types are primarily tailored towards this programme. Language proficiency requirement To participate in this course, a level of English proficiency of at least B2–C1 is required. You can assess your language proficiency by completing the self-assessment test at https://sprachenzentrum.unibas.ch/en/courses/placement/englisch/ . If your proficiency level falls below B2, contact the Language Centre of the University of Basel for guidance on how to reach the required level. |
Learning objectives | The course focuses on helping you compose the various sections of your actual scientific manuscripts, integrating fundamental principles of scientific writing with specialized guidance on content and style for each section. Having completed the course, you should have the skills to write effectively, concisely, and clearly, while also gaining valuable experience in peer reviewing ̶ an essential aspect of the scientific writing process. |
Bibliography | Participants analyse articles from their fields of study as basis for discussion and review. Course materials will be provided. |
