Content | The Seminar focuses on current topics related to the broad area of Financial Economics such as: - Currency and Money Market; - Financial Market Regulation and Financial Stability; - Asset Pricing; - (Unconventional) Monetary Policy. Schedule: - 17/02/25. Introduction. Students will be given instructions on how to develop their own research work. They will receive potential research questions to follow, information on the resources to use, and guidelines on the expected structure of both the presentation and the paper. - 13/05/25. Presentations & Discussions. Final presentation of the research paper (25-min) followed by a general open discussion (15-min). Additionally: - The research paper can be written individually or in groups of two students. Group work is encouraged, even though each single Master’s Thesis have to focus on different aspects of the seminar paper. - The deadline to submit the topic of interest is Monday 3rd March 2025, specifying the area of interest, the initial idea, and how they intend to answer the research question (data, econometric tools…). - The deadline to submit the research paper is Wednesday 30th April 2025. The presentation is not needed at this stage. - All students are requested to participate actively in all discussions. |
Learning objectives | The objective of the Research Seminar in Financial Economics is to give students the opportunity to learn how to conduct independent research, delve into the academic literature, and present the research idea in a clear and effective manner, potentially with some initial results. |
Bibliography | The literature for this seminar consists of the teaching materials provided in class, including potential references to relevant academic literature. |
Admission requirements | Priority will be given to the students who have successfully completed at least one of the following courses: - 65938 – Finance - 73132 – Advanced Asset Pricing I - 41628 – Monetary Policy |
Course application | The application for this seminar is done centrally and online until January 6, 2025 with the Studiendekanat. In case of non-participation after registration it will be noted as "nicht erschienen" in the transcript. |
