74705-01 - Colloquium: Social Research and Methodology (2 CP)

Semester spring semester 2025
Course frequency Once only
Lecturers Manfred Max Bergman (max.bergman@unibas.ch, Assessor)
Content The colloquium presents contemporary studies from the social and related sciences. It will include theoretical, qualitative, and quantitative studies, and we will endeavor to also feature new methodological approaches. Speakers are invited to demystify the research process by presenting research in process, "warts and all". They will introduce their projects at various stages of the research process, from conceptualization to how to present research findings. Participants will be exposed to different choices that need to be made during the research process, and to think through the consequences of these choices. The overarching intention of this colloquium is to demystify the research process and to inspire participants to think more creatively about research theory and applications.
Learning objectives Participants will
- expand their competences in assessing scientific work and research
- learn how to critique scientific work constructively
- be exposed to multidisciplinary and transdisciplinary research
- be encouraged to take more risks in developing a research design and research agenda
