| Content | The FS2025 Seminar will address the relationship between the study of literature and anthropology. What are the types of contact between these two disciplines on an epistemological, historical and methodological level? How can the reading of some of anthropology's theory illuminate the study of literary texts? After an introduction on the emergence of anthropology as a discipline, we will read some founding texts of this discipline (in particular by Marcel Mauss and René Girard), trying to identify their interest for the study of literature (in particular novel narrative). The seminar includes a series of lectures by the teacher, followed by individual “case studies” related to students’ PHD project. The language of the seminar is English. |
