Content | The Seminar in Economics is designed to give students basic insights into current research in economics. The seminar is offered jointly by faculty from different fields in economics to allow participants to study one topic in one of these fields in depth while learning from the other presentations what problems or issues are being discussed in current research in other fields. Students are allowed to choose which field they would like to write their paper in by selecting a supervisor. In the spring term 2025 the supervisors are Yvan Lengwiler (Banking, Finance, Growth) and Georg Nöldeke (Microeconomics Theory, Game Theory, Matching and Market Design). Sarah Lein (Empirical Macroeconomics, Monetary Policy, International Macroeconomics) is NOT available as a supervisor in the fall. Schedule: Please get in touch with your supervisor as soon as possible after your application has been accepted to start the process of selecting a topic for your seminar paper. 17.9.2025: In an initial session during the first week of the semester, we will hold an information session explaining our expectations for the papers and the presentations. 08.10.2025: In a feedback session, the students present a preliminary outline and approach and receive feedback (this will not be graded). 01.12.2025 and 03.12.2025: Students present their seminar papers, which are to be handed in by 21.11.2025. |
Learning objectives | This seminar is designed to enable students to read and understand current research, as well as summarize it in their own words, and to present and explain their assigned paper to other students. |
