| Content | The lecture course takes a chronological approach to art of the European early Middle Ages. Examining works in a wide-range of media, the course will emphasize a series of key concerns in the making and reception of art in this period of significant historical change, including the relationship of the visible and invisible, the significance of materials, the interplay of art and politics, varieties of abstraction and figuration, visual historicism and artistic innovation. Die Vorlesung befasst sich chronologisch mit der Kunst des europäischen Frühmittelalters. Der Kurs umspannt eine Weite von visuellen Medien und wird eine Reihe von Schlüsselthemen und bedeutenden historischen Veränderungen bei der Herstellung und Rezeption von Kunst in dieser Zeit behandeln, einschliesslich des Verhältnisses von Sichtbarem und Unsichtbarem, der Semantik von Materialien, des Zusammenspiels von Kunst und Politik, Variationen von Abstraktion und Figuration, visuellem Historismus und künstlerischer Innovation. |
