Semester spring semester 2026
Course frequency Every spring sem.
Lecturers Rui Mata (rui.mata@unibas.ch, Assessor)
Loreen Tisdall (loreen.tisdall@unibas.ch)
Content The behavioral sciences, psychology and economics, have developed a number of techniques to gain insights from evidence to help individuals and groups make better decisions. The lecture will provide an introduction to evidence-based decision making, including some of the techniques that have emerged in the past years to help decision makers make informed decisions. The lecture will cover such topics as the formalization of judgments and decisions of clinicians and managers using algorithms, the use of controlled and natural experiments to infer the causal power of behavior-change interventions, and the emergence of meta-analyses as sources of informed guidelines and policy-making. The theoretical principles will be illustrated with examples and hands-on tutorials.
