68752-01 - Lecture: Innovations- und Change Management für Naturwissenschaften (2 CP)

Content In today’s fast changing market environment successful innovation on a product, process and service level is of crucial importance for established companies as well as for Sturtups aiming to launch their new offerings. Startups as well as incumbents need the ability to adopt, to pivot and to transform one’s business model as needed. Companies big and small not only face the question of «how to change the business» but even more fundamentally the question of «how to run the business».
Building on the core models of innovation management this course introduces the concepts and methodologies of business model buildup and transformation. It analyzes structural and organizational aspects of disruptive innovation and highlights different organizational forms for the implementation of transformational innovation. The most important challenges innovative firms are facing will be explored as well as the innovation management toolset. The course offers case studies, examples and exercises around a series of up-to-date innovation topics as open innovation, innovation platforms and AI. Active participation is a prerequisiste.
Learning objectives 1. To gain the analytical competencies and problem-solving skills to understand the mechanisms of the innovation process and the process of business model building and transformation.
2. To learn models, tools and methods to manage innovation within Startups and established organizations.
3. To develop critical and analytical reasoning about firms’ innovation management capacity.
4. To learn models and tools to manage the change linked to innovation.

Comments The course provides an overview of the central concepts of innovation and change management in a combination of lectures, case studies (mini-cases), exercises and practical presentations and uses numerous examples to show how they are implemented in practice.
