| Content | This 3-day interactive seminar is designed for new PhD students in the Department of Environmental Sciences. It provides a practical introduction to the core competencies essential for navigating the early stages of your doctoral research. Led by experienced researchers and university experts, the course covers key topics such as scientific integrity, research data management, experimental design, literature search and bibliography management, good lab practices, science communication, code of conduct, intercultural competencies, and balancing personal well-being. Through hands-on workshops and engaging discussions, you will also build connections with your peers and learn how to access support services within the department. |
| Learning objectives | • Understand principles of scientific integrity and responsible conduct • Learn effective strategies for research data management and reproducibility • Improve skills in literature search and citation tools • Explore best practices in lab work and experimental design • Strengthen science communication skills • Understand university and departmental expectations, including the Code of Conduct • Develop strategies for time management, stress resilience, and work–life balance • Build peer connections and identify key resources within DUW |
