78088-01 - Lecture with practical courses: First Steps with Python (1 CP)

Content Participants will learn the basics of Python, an open-source and general-purpose scripting language which runs on all major operating systems, and which is one of the most common languages for data analysis in many scientific fields.
This course is addressed to beginners in programming and will teach the basic concepts and data structures necessary to solve routine data manipulation tasks. Importantly, we will cover the concepts, terminology, and approach to documentation required to further develop skills in Python programming independently. The goal is to take control of your research questions in an independent manner.

• Work with files: read and write files
• Install and import libraries and modules
• Write functions
• Apply best practices in Python programming
• Debug and document your own code
Comments Please bring your own laptop. Instructions regarding the software to install on your computer will be communicated before the course.

 

Admission requirements Primarily for PhD students at the Department of Environmental Sciences (Master’s students may join with permission).
