Content The topic will be on reducing scope three emissions focusing on social innovation in the city of Basel, using the example of „repair, don’t replace“, in collaboration with stakeholders from the canton. First, students will review and link scientific literature from different disciplines on this topic. Second, they will collect and analysis empirical data, with different groups using different formats (e.g. interviews, survey, lifecycle analysis, systematic literature review) to provide evidence. Third, based on the literature review and the collected empirical data, they will develop specific recommendations for stakeholders. Participants will get both a joint supervision and group-specific supervision on the topic/method set for the group work.
Learning objectives Participants learn to work in interdisciplinary groups, on a topic that is linked to sustainability research. They acquire practical knowledge regarding the interfaces between disciplines in sustainability research and methods for combining perspectives from different disciplines, as well as collecting relevant empirical data. They gain knowledge how to scientifically deal with trade-offs and challenges in real-world issues, integrating literature and empirical findings. They will learn how to synthesize and communicate this knowledge. Finally, another learning objective is that participants expand their skills in team and project management.
