| Content | Die Lektüreübung gilt dem jungen Wilden unter den Klassikern Roms: Catull, in den 80er Jahren des ersten vorchristlichen Jahrhunderts geboren, ist Teil einer literarischen Avantgarde, die an der überkommenen lateinischen Literatur ebenso Anstoß nimmt wie an den Rivalitäten der Politiker und Potentaten. Im Zentrum stehen dabei die sog. Carmina maiora (c. 61–68), in denen Catullus selbst für einmal in den Hintergrund tritt und sich, in der Auseinandersetzung mit der Dichtung des Hellenismus, Formen wie der Hochzeitsdichtung, der mythischen Erzählung und der Klage annimmt. Im Vordergrund stehen die Klage des jungen Attis, welcher der Göttin Cybele huldigt, indem er sich selbst entmannt (c. 63), und ein Kleinepos, das die Mythen von Ariadne und Jason (bzw. Bacchus) und Peleus und Thetis pointiert zueinander in Bezug setzt (c. 64). Die Übung richtet sich zum einen an Studierende der Latinistik sowie an AbsolventInnen des Latinums, die ihre Sprachkenntnisse sichern und erweitern wollen, zum andern aber auch an Studierende aus dem weiteren Feld der Sprach- und Literaturwissenschaften, die einen zentralen Autor im Original kennenlernen wollen. |
| Learning objectives | Die Lektüreübung erschließt zentrale Passagen aus Catulls Carmina maiora im lateinischen Original und vermittelt damit Einblick in ein Werk der römischen Literatur, das in der europäischen Literatur ein reiches Nachleben hatte. Die Teilnehmenden üben sich darin, Catulls Latein sprachlich zu verstehen, seine Eigenheiten zu erfassen und adäquat ins Deutsche zu übertragen. |
