78092-01 - Doctoral course: Between Archives, Fieldwork, and Text: Doing Research on Southern African Environments (1 CP)

Semester spring semester 2026
Course frequency Once only
Lecturers Luregn Lenggenhager (luregn.lenggenhager@unibas.ch, Assessor)
Content This one-day block course provides an open forum for PhD researchers—and for Master’s students who are planning or writing their theses—to present and discuss their ongoing work. While the core focus is on topics related to Southern African environments, the workshop is also open to broader Africa-related research. The emphasis is on work in progress: the questions you are developing, the materials you are engaging with, the challenges you face, and the strategies you are using to address them.
Participants are invited to present their current projects and to bring specific issues or questions they would like to explore with the group and the lecturer(s). This may include refining research questions, positioning your work within scholarly debates, discussing experiences and obstacles in interviews or archival research, or reflecting on how to structure your thesis.

Admission requirements Advanced Master's students are welcome.
Course application Participants are kindly asked to submit (by email to the course convenor) a short abstract of their work or the topics they wish to discuss at the beginning of the semester. A detailed schedule will be circulated closer to the workshop date
