| Content | Over the past 30 years, global history has become an important and increasingly multi-faceted historiographical approach that seeks to overcome methodological nationalism and Eurocentric perspectives on the world. This course introduces theories and methods of global history by dealing with the cross-border movement of ideas, things and people on two different levels: first, by reading and discussing key texts on the history of global circulation and the various methods (partly inspired by neighboring disciplines) that can be used to reconstruct it; and second, by addressing access to and use of digitized global historical sources. Students will carry out small projects that apply the methods they have learned to examine objects and materials from local and/or digital archives, and will present their projects for discussion. |
