| Content | Agri-food systems are at the crossroads of several global issues such as climate change, biodiversity loss, social inequality, and health crises. Yet they also offer a powerful lever to address these issues through transformative change. Understanding and shaping such change requires perspectives from research, policy and a whole range of social sectors. Transdisciplinary research provides an approach to integrate knowledge from diverse groups, enabling the identification, framing, and analysis of complex problems in order to inform and enable transformative processes. This seminar explores transdisciplinary approaches to the agri-food transformation. Through readings, group work, and discussions, students will engage with theoretical debates and real-world challenges at the interface of research and practice. The course emphasizes joint problem framing, critical reflection, and hands-on project work. |
| Learning objectives | At the end of this seminar: - Students will be able to describe key issues related to agri-food system transformation at both global level and in the regional context of Basel - Students will be familiar with a range of transdisciplinary methods applicable to addressing challenges in agri-food system transformation. - Students will be able to collaboratively develop and implement a joint problem framing approach. - Students will be able to critically reflect on the implications of joint problem framing for the design of a research project. |
