64039-01 - Research seminar: Toni Morrison's Middle Novels (4 CP)

Content Toni Morrison (1931-2019) was one of the leading American novelists from the publication of her debut novel "The Bluest Eye" in 1970. She was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1993. In this course, we will study her three novels from 1987 to 1997, "Beloved" (winner of the 1988 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction), "Jazz", and "Paradise".
Learning objectives In-depth study of Toni Morrison's novels, as well as of their reception.
Bibliography The following books by Toni Morrison are required for the course:

"Jazz". 1992. Vintage edition. 9780099750918
"Paradise". 1997. Vintage edition. 9780099768210

The books are available at the Labyrinth bookstore, Nadelberg 17, Basel.

Selected secondary literature on the three novels will be provided by the instructor.
