Content Health care system and beyond – General and nursing related health economics – Swiss Healthcare tariffs - Healthcare financing – Measuring and valuing health - Health economic evaluations (model based as well as evaluations of health insurance and real-world data) - Health technology assessment - Hospital business management – Behavioural health economics
Learning objectives Upon completion of the course, students will:
1. Have a broad understanding of health and healthcare from an economic viewpoint, and understand how healthcare markets differ from other markets.
2. Recognise the importance of choice and scarcity in economics, and efficiency in healthcare.
3. Understand the Swiss healthcare system and the basic economic mechanisms principles behind it.
4. Understand the different healthcare tariffs and billing (related to nursing) and current policy developments in financing and tariff setting
5. Understand economic evaluations in relation to healthcare programs, how to measure costs and effects/benefits
6. Apply the concept of a value-for-money health economic analysis to a concrete example in nursing science (assignment)
7. Develop an understanding of the importance of healthcare technology assessments in different countries.
8. Understand the importance of data collection alongside clinical trials und from real-world data sources (e.g. data from health insurances).
9. Know key components and concepts of hospital business management related to nursing.
10. Understand individual decision making in public health and problems that arise from the way decisions are made in the clinical setting (behavioural health economics)
