26784-01 - Lecture: Applied Monetary Policy (3 CP)

Content The lecture Applied Monetary Policy is a course aimed at giving students insight into the world of monetary policy. The lecture is divided into three parts. The first part provides the definition of the most important terms in monetary policy. The second part lists the goals and concepts of a central bank and shows which instruments central banks have at their disposal to achieve their goals. Finally, the third part of the lecture discusses the measures taken by the most important central banks during the financial crisis (starting in 2007), with a focus on the Swiss National Bank (SNB) and current challenges. Each block will be illustrated with applied practical examples.
Learning objectives - Knowledge of the terms and concepts of monetary policy
- Understanding of the necessity, functioning and problems of monetary policy
- Understanding of central bank actions during the financial crisis starting in 2007
- Factual and conceptual knowledge are in the foreground

Admission requirements completed BA in Economics, especially successful attendance of the courses "Introduction to Economics" and Intermediate Macroeconomics, as well as "Statistics" and Mathematics 1 and 2, recommended
