Content This lecture introduces concentration phenomena: the remarkable principle that random objects often behave almost deterministically when the number of inputs diverges. It develops the fundational tools for controlling fluctuations of random variables, such as the classical inequalities (Hoeffding, Bernstein, and McDiarmid), together with modern geometric and probabilistic perspectives. We illustrate these techniques in applications in random matrix theory, statistics, and possibly machine learning, and theoretical computer science. The course emphasizes both intuition and rigorous methods.
