79788-01 - Course: Fundamentals of Quantitative Research (3 CP)

Content This seminar introduces the foundations of quantitative research in the social sciences. Students will learn how to formulate research questions, develop and test hypotheses, evaluate data, and interpret statistical evidence. The course covers key concepts such as measurement, sampling, causality, and regression analysis, with a strong focus on understanding and critically assessing empirical research. No advanced mathematical background is required; the emphasis is on understanding the logic behind quantitative research and being able to understand and apply the most common methods.
In addition, a tutorial introduces students to the practical application of quantitative methods using R.
Learning objectives - Understanding the foundations of quantitative research
- Critically assessing research designs, data sources, and empirical findings
- Interpretation of analyses and regression models
- Communication of analysis results
Comments The seminar takes place in Theatre Hall E016 at Hebelstrasse 3. You can enter the building with a valid UNIcard through the glass entrance at Hebelstrasse 3.
