79790-01 - Tutorial: Fundamentals of Quantitative Research (2 CP)

Semester fall semester 2026
Course frequency Every semester
Lecturers Frederic Engelhardt (frederic.engelhardt@unibas.ch)
Sophie Suda (sophie.suda@unibas.ch, Assessor)
Content The tutorial complements the seminar "Fundamentals of Quantitative Research" by providing the practical application of quantitative research methods using R. Students will learn how to work with empirical data, perform descriptive and inferential statistical analyses, estimate and interpret regression models, and visualise results. The tutorial closely follows the topics covered in the seminar and emphasises the implementation of the methods discussed there. By the end of the course, students will be able to conduct basic quantitative analyses in R and critically interpret and communicate their results.
Learning objectives - Practical application of quantitative methods using R
- Critically assessing research designs, data sources, and empirical findings
- Interpretation of analyses and regression models
- Communication of analysis results

Admission requirements Students are expected to bring a laptop to each tutorial with R and RStudio installed.
