67162-01 - Seminar: Reproducibility and Performance of Privacy-Enhancing Technologies (6 CP)

Semester fall semester 2026
Course frequency Irregular
Lecturers Florina M. Ciorba (florina.ciorba@unibas.ch)
Isabel Wagner (isabel.wagner@unibas.ch, Assessor)
Content Protecting sensitive information and personal data is fundamentally important for our society. In this seminar, we study technical solutions to protect privacy, so-called privacy-enhancing technologies or PETs.
Each participant gives a presentation and writes a report discussing a privacy-enhancing technology for a particular application area, based on a recent research paper. The participants also explore the practical application of privacy-enhancing technologies in a programming project which focuses on reproducibly evaluating the performance of PETs, particularly in the context of high-performance computing.
Learning objectives - reading and understanding scientific literature
- independent solution of programming projects
- preparing and presenting scientific talks
- conducting scientific discussions with peers
- writing and discussing scientific reports
Bibliography Will be provided during the seminar.
Comments Due to the seminar's format and organization, we can only accept a limited number of 12 students. We will admit students in a First Come First Serve order in terms of registration date (on services), giving priority to those that need the seminar credits in this semester.

Admission requirements Programming skills are required for the project component of the course.
