| Content | This course considers the constitutional and institutional aspects of the European Union and the European Community. In its most famous judgment, Van Gend en Loos of 1963, the European Court of Justice stated that the Community constitutes a new legal order of International Law. What makes it so special? How did the original three Communities develop into the larger EU? How do the EU and the EC work? The course deals with the following issues: development and structure of the EC and the EU, constitutional aspects, primacy and direct effect of EC law, institutions of the EU and of the EC, decision making, the making of secondary legislation and the Courts important role in developing Community law. |
