Content | Welcome to the labyrinth ...! The Gothic as a mode of writing has been very influential in English literary history, and this course aims both to give an overview and to address important specific topics within the Gothic, like aesthetic theory, gendering, the uncanny and the role of the supernatural. We will begin in the early days of Gothic writing in the late 18th century and end up in the new millennium, in the "deadly space between". |
Learning objectives | Students will gain an insight into the history, the aesthetic implications and cultural resonances of the Gothic. |
