The topics addressed include: what are the characteristics of the sound system? How can the sounds be categorized in a linguistic fashion? How can new words be formed, and how are they inflected? What makes English sentence structure special? Moreover, the structural properties of English will be discussed in a broader context of typology and linguistic methodology, and there will be work on the practical application of linguistic analysis in the Übungen. |
