Content | In this course we will make a tour-de-force through the area of 'Bindestrich'-linguistics and touch on topics such as the cultural, social, political, and historical aspects of language use, as well as questions involving teaching English as a foreign language. Students will be required to do preparatory reading and give presentations on specific topics. |
Learning objectives | The objectives of this course are: firstly, to arrive at an overview of the topics mentioned above, secondly, to acquire the means necessary for further, relatively detailed, independent study of linguistic topics discussed so far, and thirdly, to conduct research and to critically examine the relevant literature. |

Admission requirements | Open to post-introductory students (3rd year onwards) who have completed all the necessary requirements of the first two years of their studies in English linguistics. |
