Content | Ecological and web-based assessments using computers or smartphones are becoming ever more used and useful tools to understand cognitive and affective phenomena with applications in organizational psychology (Ohly, Sonnentag, Niessen, & Zapf, 2010), cognitive and consumer psychology (Miller, 2012), and clinical psychology (Trull & Ebner-Priemer, 2013). This seminar provides a first introduction to ecological and web assessment methods through a mixture of lectures, readings, and practical exercises. Specifically, the seminar will consist of 1) background lectures, 2) hands-on exercises, including the design of on-line surveys (e.g., using Unipark) and statistical analysis of simple diary experiments (e.g., using R), and 3) presentation and discussion of research articles by the students. Learning objectives | The goal of the seminar is to give students both an overview of ecological assessment methods and their application to organizational, consumer, and clinical contexts. In addition, students will gain a first hands-on experience in implementing and analyzing data from simple web-based intense longitudinal surveys. |
