| Content | In this seminar, we will study the literature on transnational repression, that is how governments reach across borders to silence dissent among diasporas and exiles. We concentrate on the efforts either putatively or demonstrably undertaken by actors related to the People's Republic of China and the Communist Party of China. The focus is on the Tibetan and Uyghur diasporas across the globe and particularly in Europe. |
| Learning objectives | Students learn about a transnational phenomenon that is often reported about in the media and heavily politicized, which complicates academic discussion. Students learn to work through open source research and how to navigate ethical questions. |
