Content | Texts in ancient Greek are a major source for many disciplines in the Humanities (History, Archaeology, Philosophy, Theology and Religious studies, etc.). This course is tailored for non-specialists. Its goal is to provide an overview of the digital resources that allow accessing Ancient Greek texts, understanding them and using them in the participants’ future research. Organized as a block teaching (a full day once a month, three and a half days in total, see detailed schedule below), it will include an interactive language course and practical training by translating and commenting key texts from Antiquity. It will adapt to the interests of the participants (choice of topics, authors, field, etc). |
Learning objectives | Not to be afraid to look at sources in Ancient Greek that are relevant to one's research. Be able to find texts in their original Greek version. Be able to look for the meaning of key words and fully understand them. Be able to use tools assisting the translations of texts. Know where to find and how to use more resources on Ancient Greek Grammar. Be able to discuss translation choices. |
Bibliography | The list of the main online resources will be provided and discussed during the first course. |
